-worship: the act of honoring, adoring and giving praise to God
-David said to Michal, “It was before the Lord…I will celebrate before the Lord. I will become even more undignified than this…”
–2 Samuel 6: 21-22 (excerpts)
-Wave your hands in the air like you don’t care…
–Word Up by Cameo
-I will bless You as long as I live; in Your name I will lift up my hands.
–Psalm 63:4
Recently, over coffee, a friend said, “Um, can I ask you a question?”
“Sure…”
“Well, like me, you had an old-school church upbringing. How are you so comfortable raising your hands when we worship? I can’t go there. I’m way too self-conscious.”
“Dude, I always have this picture that Jesus is crowd-surfing over the congregation, and I’m pushing Him along!”
I mean, seriously…
I’m a hockey fan, and my arms shoot up automatically with every goal my team scores (Go, Fighting Hawwwwwwks!).
I love me a good rock concert, my head banging, fists in the air, body breaking into every “Wayne’s World” move that’s humanly possible.
Why would I hold back before the Lord?! My Creator, my Provider, my Protector, my Father, my Savior.
I’m gonna offer LESS?
Yeah, don’t think so.
And, see, the other thing is, when I worship, I want it to be a full expression, a physical outpouring, of all that love I have for Him inside. It’s the closest I can get to giving Him a hug!
So I reach up for all I’m worth.
And then there’s the vocal part.
Ahem…err…okay…
I was reminded the other day that I’m one of those “loud church singers.”
To which I replied, “Yup. That I am. I proudly proclaim it…and what I lack in talent, I make up for in ENTHUSIASM!”
Which got me thinking…
Hey! That could apply to more than just Sunday service…it could be an intention all. week. long! Waking and making each day “an act of honoring, adoring, and giving praise to God.”
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God–this is your true and proper worship.” (Romans 12:1)
My life…as worship!
What I lack in talent, I’ll make up for in enthusiasm.
“But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, my power is made perfect in weakness.'” (2 Corinthians 12: 9a)
And what I lack in anything…
I’ll make up for in Jesus.
