FIELD NOTES: qualitative notes recorded by scientists/researchers in the course of field research, during and after their observation of a specific phenomenon they are studying. The notes are intended to be read as evidence that gives meaning and aids in understanding the phenomenon.
**They should be descriptive and reflective.
DESCRIPTIVE: what the inquirer sees, hears, and experiences
REFLECTIVE: reflect your personal account of what you are learning
PRAYER WARRIOR: We are taught that there is a great spiritual battle ongoing (Ephesians 6:12). A prayer warrior is one who takes part in that battle through prayer–interceding for others and praying for God’s will to be done in all things.
SHELBO: My prayer warrior trail name.
*Origin: When I was 19 (in the, ahem, mid-80s) I got heavily (pun intended) into weight lifting. That earned me the nickname “Shelbo,” a mashup of Shelby and Rambo. It reminds me that I am outrageous, audacious, and ready to do battle! And, yes, I still lift weights!
TRAIL NAME: Trail names are fun, silly or serious names hikers either select for themselves or that are bestowed upon them by fellow hikers. Generally, the name has some connection to a hiking experience or to the hiker’s life.
Aren’t we all really just hiking through life?
